At Solas, we believe that to truly disseminate high quality behavior analysis and support parents, caregivers and educators in using ABA principles to teach language, manage behavior and promote generalization of the wonderful skills our learners acquire within therapy sessions, we first need to understand the principles that shape behavior in our own lives. This is the foundation for our new series: ABA in Real Life.
Rather than diving straight into strategies and techniques for children (of which we have all heard of many), this series begins by exploring key ABA concepts in a way that is grounded, relevant and adult-focused first. Our aim is to build a deeper understanding - so that when we do apply these principles when supporting children with autism, ADHD, or additional language and learning needs, we can do so thoughtfully, with clarity, and most importantly, flexibility and analysis.
We will explore key principles such as Reinforcement, Differential Reinforcement, Motivation, Shaping, Punishment and more, not just as tools, but as processes that we all experience every day. By connecting these principles to real-life examples, we hope to support parents, support staff and educators to feel more confident, curious and competent in the important work they do.
We hope this series sparks reflection - not just about the children you support, but about your own experiences too. If something here resonates with you, or if you have questions or insights youd like to share, we would love to hear from you. Feel free to comment, start a conversation or reach out to us with feedback. This space is for learning together, and the readers perspective, experiences and opinions are a valuable part of that.
